"Hugo Crosthwaite, a native of Tijuana, does a large scale drawing on panel, 'Bartolomé' (2004), which bring us into this decade, darkly. It merges imagery about the torture of Iraqis at Abu Ghraib prison with the story of the flaying of Saint Bartholomew back in the first century A.D. This is a beautifully drawn work, with background imagery culled from Tijuana's streets and a sign on one building that is unmistakably symbolic: It advertised meat for sale."
